Man arrested after west Windsor standoff

Windsor police arrested a man after a five-hour standoff in west Windsor on Thursday.

Police report the man chased several people with a butcher knife before barricading himself inside a home on McEwan Avenue near University Avenue.

Officers were called to the home around 7:30 a.m. When they arrived, the 26-year-old was already confined inside the home.

Patrol officers, the Emergency Services Unit, and other specialized response personnel establish a perimeter. Officers were talking to the individual on the phone, but he refused to come out.

Around 12:30 p.m., the suspect attempted to escape out the back door but was arrested after a brief struggle.

The 26-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, break and enter, mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime.
