Three drivers arrested in Windsor on Canada Day

Windsor police say officers were busy dealing with drivers who may have been overindulging in Canada Day celebrations.

At least three drivers were arrested for alleged impaired driving within 24 hours.

The first was on Wednesday at 4:30 a.m. at the Windsor point of entry for the Ambassador Bridge. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers stopped a driver who took a wrong turn into Canada.

Police said that the driver was disoriented, smelled of alcohol, and refused to take a breath test. Windsor police took the 31-year-old man into custody on a charge of refusing to provide a breath sample.

The second arrest was at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police responded to a collision at a restaurant drive-thru on Tecumseh Road East near Walker Road.

The male driver of one vehicle had poor balance, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his breath.

The 42-year-old man was charged with driving while impaired and driving with an excessive blood-alcohol concentration.

Finally, a 28-year-old man was found passed out behind the wheel on Shepherd Street near Windermere Road. Police found the man asleep at around 1 a.m. on Thursday with an open container of alcohol.

The driver was awakened and taken to police headquarters, where he was arrested after failing a breath test.

He is charged with driving with an excessive blood-alcohol concentration.

The charges have not been proven in court.
