Storm clean-up continues in Windsor

ENWIN Utilities continues to recover after the weekend's multiple storms.

At the peak of activity, over 11,000 customers were without power Friday night. Crews that were sent to Woodstock had to be recalled, and ENWIN recruited help from neighbouring communities to help with restoration efforts.

"The electricity infrastructure itself actually fared fairly well. It wasn't affected by the storm, the winds per se. It was the trees in the system, especially areas that have backyard services," said Chief Operating Officer Jim Brown.

He indicated that's where they saw the most damage, and those are the most difficult areas to repair.

"Those are always very difficult to get access to, to cut through the trees and to get the lines back up and get equipment in," said Brown. "A lot of the work has to be done through manual methods, climbing poles, rather than bringing machinery in to help."

As repairs are ongoing, an estimate on how much damage the weekend's storms caused has not been assessed.

"We'll have a lot of limb-on-wire calls to clean up, and we'll be tracking all of those costs, probably for the next two to three days," said Brown.

Only a handful of customers were still without power Monday morning.
