The Town of Tecumseh has provided an update on the soaking rain that fell over the weekend.
Residents dealt with what was termed a significant weather event on Sunday, with two rounds of torrential rain. Portions of Tecumseh got as much as 105 millimetres of rain.
"Approximately 74 millimetres fell over a two-hour period from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., which resulted in surface ponding in low-lying areas, roadways, and private properties at various locations throughout the Town," read a release from the Town. "At the peak of the storm, it registered over a one-in-100-year storm event."
The Town had received multiple calls from residents reporting flooded streets, while stating that all storm and sanitary pumps were functioning and that Town employees and representatives from the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) were on-site.
Members of the public works department are still working to clear debris from catch basins and roadways.
Tecumseh will offer flood debris pickup as part of the regular trash collection day this Thursday. Pickup crews will allow bags of waste, other than those in the approved hard-sided containers, to be left.
"The Town is requesting that any flood debris be placed in hard-sided containers or garbage bags, if possible, to assist with its safe collection and handling," read the release. "The bags must be tied at the top, be less than 50 pounds, be placed next to the hard-sided container, not on top, and not contain sharp objects, paint, batteries, or other hazardous waste...GFL will not collect containers that are outside the size or weight limits as directed."
Residents affected by property or basement flooding have been asked by the Town to report their situation by completing an online survey.
