Windsor City Hall to host World Cup event on Wednesday

The City of Windsor has invited soccer fans from across the region for another celebration of the "beautiful game".

City Hall Square will host the Canada Celebrates the FIFA World Cup 2026 celebration on Wednesday, coinciding with the semifinal between England and Argentina.

"Events like this help bring people together, showcase the diversity and spirit of our community, and support our Experience Windsor initiative by encouraging residents and visitors to explore all that our city has to offer," said Mayor Drew Dilkens. "We are proud to host this free celebration and look forward to welcoming everyone to downtown Windsor for what promises to be a memorable summer event."

The program officially opens at noon on Wednesday with live music and soccer-themed activities, plus food trucks, interactive experiences for fans of all ages, and a licensed beer garden.

The England-Argentina semifinal match will be screened live at 3 p.m. Once that is completed, activities will resume and run until 8 p.m.

The event will require some road closures in the area. On Tuesday at 7 a.m., University Avenue East will close between Goyeau and just west of McDougall. Parking for 400 City Hall Square may still be accessed from McDougall. This closure will remain in effect until 7 a.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, City Hall Square West, and Park Street East between Goyeau Street and Windsor Avenue, will also be closed from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
