Gordie Howe Bridge to open on Friday with Canada-only celebration

There appears to be another development in the saga surrounding the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.

The Canadian Press, citing the federal Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, has reported that the bridge will hold a ribbon-cutting on Friday as scheduled, but it will be a Canada-only event.

The Ministry said that an American delegation will not participate in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's new threat of 50 per cent tariffs on some Canadian goods.

The bridge is still set to open to traffic on Monday.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens had confirmed to WindsorNewsToday.ca that he had been invited to an opening event on Friday.

WindsorNewsToday.ca has reached out to both the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and the Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities for additional details and is awaiting responses.

More to come.
