No matter if it is a weekday, weekend or holiday, veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces can now visit provincial parks in Ontario free of charge.
The Ontario government announced on Monday that it is expanding free day-use access of the parks to seven days a week for veterans and members who live in the province.
“We are immensely grateful for the courage and sacrifices made by the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to defending our country and protecting our values of freedom and democracy,” said Environment, Conservation and Parks Minister Todd McCarthy. “Expanding access to our incredible provincial parks is a token of appreciation for their service and commitment."
To get the free access, veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces can either reserve a spot in advance through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service or present valid armed forces identification, such as a veteran's service card or Canadian Forces identification, upon arrival. The free entry covers all people within the same vehicle as the veteran or service member.
There is no limit to how often eligible members can visit the parks for free, the province added.
Ontario began offering free weekday access to veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces in 2019. Since then more than 228,000 free visits have been recorded by veterans, active members, and their families and friends.
