Windsor police charged seven people with impaired driving offences over the weekend, including four at international borders.
Early on Saturday, officers arrested a 26-year-old at Windsor Regional Hospital after they saw two people arguing inside a vehicle. Officers say they witnessed the driver's speech was heavily slurred, his eyes were glossy, and his breath smelled of alcohol.
Later, officers were called for a wellness check in a parking lot of a convenience store on Lauzon Road. Officers saw a man asleep in the driver's seat with a bottle of alcohol on the passenger seat. A 25-year-old was arrested on the scene.
On Saturday afternoon, Windsor police were called to the Ambassador Bridge to help the Canadian Border Services Agency with an arrest. According to police, a woman was trying to enter Canada but had trouble following directions and nearly struck a pole while reversing. The 36-year-old driver was arrested and charged.
Later that evening, police were called to a restaurant parking lot on Legacy Park Drive where a man was reportedly passed out inside a vehicle. An open container of liquor was allegedly found in the driver's side door. The 40-year-old was arrested and charged.
On Sunday morning, two drivers were arrested at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. Around 2 a.m. a man was stopped after he showed signs of impairment. The 24-year-old was arrested and charged.
Just two hours later, a woman claimed she had taken a wrong turn and entered the tunnel into Canada. Officers saw signs of impairment. The 26-year-old from Michigan was arrested and charged.
A final arrest for impaired driving was made at the Gordie Howe International Bridge around 2 a.m. Sunday. A 44-year-old man from Michigan was charged after officers noted bloodshot eyes, unsteadiness on his feet and what appeared to be vomit on his body.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
