Angled parking leads to more spots in downtown Windsor

The City of Windsor has created 249 new parking spaces in downtown Windsor by transitioning to angled parking on some streets.

The angled parking lines have already been painted along Chatham Street and Pitt Street between Caron Avenue and Goyeau Street. City staff continue to work on moving parking meters and adding signage along the street.

"If the spot is available right now and there's no meter or no app sign in front of you, you're good to go for the time being. We're in the process. We've got to get some locates done so we don't drill through some powerlines. We'll get the holes put in, the pipes put on, and then the meters will be back," said Bill Kralovensky, Manager of Transportation Operations.

Drivers are advised to take extra caution along streets with angled parking. When leaving a parking space reverse slowly with the steering wheel straight until you've cleared surrounding vehicles and watch for oncoming traffic.

The change to angled parking was approved by City Council in January. The additional spots will make the city an estimated $756,350 a year.
