The Town of Tecumseh and the City of Windsor are planning for future investments with the help of the provincial government.
Each municipality received $50,000 from the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) program to assist in planning for long-term growth.
"The town is putting in an additional $50,000 towards retaining a consultant who will work with our local economic development representatives, Invest WindsorEssex and the Chamber, and look at seeking opportunities to broaden the economic base in Tecumseh," said Brian Hillman, Director of Development for the town.
The City of Windsor also received $50,000. It will go toward the development of the Health and R&D District Master Plan to attract investment around the future hospital.
"We know health is going to be a big sector in the future, especially with the hospital that is being built, so we're looking forward to continuing the master planning exercise. As part of this work, we're going to be developing a foreign direct investment strategy around what types of companies we should be investing in that space," said Matt Johnson, Executive Director of Economic Development with the City of Windsor.
Through the first intake of the ROD program, the province is investing over $5.5 million in 116 projects across rural Ontario.
“This investment will help Windsor and Tecumseh strengthen our local economies and plan for long-term growth,” said Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor–Tecumseh. “I’m proud to work alongside Windsor and Tecumseh Councils to bring provincial support home and create new opportunities for our communities.”
