The Windsor Police Service is trying to flesh out its auxiliary ranks.
It's hiring multiple auxiliary officers right now to help patrol parks and special events.
Applicants must be at least 18, a Canadian citizen, and a high school graduate. They need to have a G driver's license, possess valid first aid and CPR certificates, and provide six character references. They also need to submit to a background investigation.
Successful candidates must commit to a minimum of 35 hours a month for park patrols, and ten special events a year.
Auxiliary officers can be part of the Windsor Police Honour Guard at parades, educational events, officer funeral, and other significant events.
The Bike Team matches auxiliary officers up with experienced officers patrolling parks and trails across the city. The Parks Patrol is also visible in parks from May to September.
The auxiliary also supports more than 70 volunteer events a year, including during the Ford Fireworks, the Canada Day Parade, and the Santa Claus Parade.
Auxiliary members will receive on-the-job training, or ride alongs, exposing them to real-life scenarios.
