The Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority is expanding the organic waste program to Leamington, Kingsville, and Amherstburg this fall.
Green bins will be delivered to single-family homes in those three communities next month, and organic waste collection will start in November.
"We appreciate everyone's patience as delivery rolls out over the coming weeks," said the authority's Manager of Waste Diversion, Cathy Copot-Nepszy. "Amherstburg, Kingsville, and Leamington are joining communities that have already kept more than 10,000 tonnes of food waste out of landfill. We can't wait to see that number grow."
Each single-family home will get its green bin, a kitchen catcher, a how-to guide, a sample compostable bag, and a Glad sample compostable bag with a $2 off coupon.
"We ask residents to get familiar with their kit now, but to hold off on filling it until the last week of October so everything's ready when weekly collection begins in November," said Copot-Nepszy.
Bins will be delivered to about 27,000 homes in early October.
