Police charge extortion and assault suspect in Amherstburg

An Amherstburg man faces extortion, assault with a weapon, and administering a noxious substance charges after an incident dating back to June.

Windsor Police arrested a 31-year-old man on Tuesday after a victim reported to officers that he was assaulted after advertising an item for sale online.

The victim posted the item for sale in June. The suspect came to his home and said he would pay for the item by the end of the month.

He never returned, and the item was sold to someone else.

However, the suspect later returned to the victim's home and demanded money. He threatened to harm the victim if he didn't receive money by a certain date. He then sprayed the victim with a noxious substance and left.

Several days later, the suspect contacted the victim on the phone and again demanded money.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect and picked him up at a home on Victoria Street in Amherstburg.

Police charged the suspect with two counts of extortion, assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance, and breach of probation.
