Tart and Soul Butter Tart Festival is set for Sunday

The release for this upcoming event reads like a warning, but only if you're trying to watch your weight.

"The tarts are coming," read the release announcing the return of the Tart & Soul Butter Tart Festival this Sunday at WindsorEasts on Erie Street East.

The event promises an "outstanding lineup of butter tart bakers and sweet makers from across Southwestern Ontario and beyond."

"After last year's inaugural Windsor event proved there is a serious appetite for butter tarts in the region, founder and DougTheFoodie Doug Robbins is bringing Tart & Soul back for another sweet showdown," the release continued.

"People came hungry; they brought their families and friends, and they really embraced the bakers who travelled to Windsor to be part of it," said Robbins. "We wanted to bring that energy back."

Gates open at 11 a.m., and admission is free.

This year's lineup includes Butter Me Bitchy from Goderich, Cream Beanery Cafe from London, and from Sarnia, Dattolos Baked Goods. Local bakeries, Nature Smike Bean Pie and Zuleeats of Windsor, and The Cannoli Parlour from McGregor are also participating.

Eleven bakers in all will bring their own take on the classic Canadian treat, and festival-goers will have the difficult job of deciding which deserve their vote for the best.

"Tart & Soul is about celebrating the butter tart, but it's also about celebrating the people behind them," said Robbins. "These are small businesses, passionate bakers, and creative food entrepreneurs who put a lot of themselves into what they make. That's where the soul comes in."
