What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Thanksgiving?

We are now in the first long weekend of fall, and that means many people will be taking time off.

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving, a federal statutory holiday that coincides with Columbus Day in the U.S.

This means that all federal, provincial and municipal government offices will be closed on Monday. There will be no Canada Post delivery.

All Service Ontario branches are closed, though some business may be performed online.

All banks, credit unions and other financial businesses will be closed on Thanksgiving.

There will be no classes on Monday at the four publicly-funded school boards serving Windsor-Essex, along with St. Clair College and the University of Windsor. Classes will resume on Tuesday.

The 311 call centre will be closed Monday, though 311 will still be available online and on the app. For emergencies such as a downed tree, backed-up sewers, or serious road damage, call the after-hours line at (519) 255-6326.

The 211 call centre will operate 24 hours as usual.

Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall in Windsor are both closed on Monday. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In the City of Windsor, all garbage and yard waste collection will continue as usual. However, the public drop-off and chemical waste disposal facilities on Central Avenue will be closed on Thanksgiving.

The H-4 Community Hub at the former Windsor Water World will be open 24 hours.

All community centres, customer care centres, and arenas in the City of Windsor are closed on Monday except for pre-scheduled or previously booked rentals. The central registration booking centre is also closed on Thanksgiving.

At the WFCU Centre, the ice rinks will be open for rentals from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Windsor Spitfires will host the Saginaw Spirit for a special Thanksgiving matinee with a 2:05 p.m. puck drop on Monday.

All indoor pools will be closed on Monday, along with the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre, and Adventure Bay Family Water Park.

The Lakeview Park Marina's office and fuel dock will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, and the launch ramps will open at 7 a.m.

All Windsor Public Library branches and Essex County Library branches will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

There is no parking enforcement in the City of Windsor on Sunday and Monday. Street-metered parking will be free. Garages and surface lots will be paid as usual. Payment offices are closed, though payments can still be made online.

Transit Windsor buses are running on the Sunday and holiday schedule. The customer service office at the Chatham Street West terminal will be closed on Monday.

The Chimczuk Museum and the Francois Baby House will be closed on Monday, their normal off days. Streetcar #351 at the Legacy Beacon will also be closed.

All LCBO locations and Beer Store outlets will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Supermarkets and convenience stores that sell alcohol may be either closed or on shortened hours on Monday.
