Charges laid after a crash, Windsor Police find crack cocaine

Windsor Police say a 38-year-old man faces charges after a crash on Tecumseh Road East, where the vehicle struck a hydro pole.

Police say an officer was eastbound on Tecumseh Road East near Leonard Road last Wednesday when a vehicle sped past in the oncoming lane.

Before the officer could safely turn the cruiser around, the driver lost control and hit a utility pole. The driver then took off on foot.

The officer chased the suspect and arrested him as he tried to enter an apartment building.

When officers searched the suspect's vehicle, they found a bag of crack cocaine.

The man is now charged with possession of a scheduled substance, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

Police say the driver was also issued a Provincial Offences Notice for driving while under two license suspensions.

Police are asking witnesses to the crash, or anyone with dashcam video, to come forward. They can contact the Windsor Police Traffic Enforcement Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 7032. Crime Stoppers can also be reached at 519-258-8477 or go to www.catchcrooks.com.
