Off-duty Windsor sergeant helps in arrest of robbery suspect

A routine trip to the barbershop for an off-duty Windsor police officer ended with the arrest of a robbery suspect.

Few details have been released, but Windsor police say the officer, identified as Sergeant Trevor Snyder, was leaving after getting a haircut on Friday and spotted a man chasing someone.

Police say that the man being chased had allegedly stolen property from the victim and threatened to kill him.

Snyder identified himself as a police officer and stepped in.

"When the suspect attempted to strike him, Sergeant Snyder was able to detain him following a brief struggle until on-duty officers arrived," read a social media post from Windsor police.

The stolen property was returned to its rightful owner.

A 43-year-old man is charged with robbery and uttering death threats. The charges have not been proven in court.

"Sergeant Snyder was promoted to the rank of sergeant earlier this year," read the post. "His actions on his day off are a strong reflection of the commitment he brings to the role."
