Amherstburg, Kingsville, Leamington collection starts next week

Residents in Amherstburg, Kingsville and Leamington should start filling up their green bins with organic waste this week.

Collection begins in those municipalities the first week of November.

“Every household that uses the Green Bin helps extend the life of our only local landfill, avoid the high costs of siting a new one, and support the agriculturally rich lands that serve us all,” said Cathy Copot-Nepszy, Manager of Waste Diversion. “The Authority encourages residents to start using their Green Bin the last week of October, so they are ready for the first collection in November.”

Essex, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Tecumseh, and Windsor diverted 12,000 tonnes of waste during the first year of the program.

The Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority reminds residents that Green Bins should be set out before 6 a.m. on collection day. Bins should be placed 30 cm behind the curb, with the arrows on the lid pointed toward the street. At least one metre of space should be left between the green bins and any other bin or cart.

Green bin collection in Tecumseh is also changing next week from Tuesday to Thursday. The change balances collection scheduling as Phase 2

municipalities join the regional program.
