Police now say three people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning on County Road 22.
Just after 6 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police, Lakeshore firefighters, and Essex-Windsor EMS responded to the crash between Manning Road and West Pike Creek Road in Lakeshore.
Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in one of the vehicles was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the victim was pronounced deceased, but regained vital signs while at the hospital. A later update from the OPP said the person had, in fact, died.
Others involved in the crash are being assessed for injuries.
As a result of the collision, the OPP shut down County Road 22 between Manning Road and West Pike Creek Road. Police say it will be closed for several hours while officers investigate.
Police ask anyone with information or dashcam video of the collision to come forward by contacting the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
The OPP also reminds drivers calls to police regarding road closures tie up resources needed to respond to emergencies.
*An earlier version of this story said there were three deceased from the collision. The OPP has updated the information to say one victim regained vital signs at the hospital. A second update stated the victim had died.
