The Ontario Provincial Police has wrapped up Project Safe Haul, its focused commercial vehicle safety initiative, taking 119 commercial trucks off the road.
The campaign started on October 13 and wrapped up on November 1.
During that time, OPP officers and inspectors participated in 22 enforcement blitzes throughout the West Region. A total of 325 vehicles were inspected, and 266 charges were laid.
The project is designed to improve road safety by identifying commercial vehicles that are not safe on the road, addressing regulatory non-compliance, and ensuring drivers meet safety standards.
"The overwhelming majority of drivers recognize the importance of proper vehicle maintenance, pre-trip inspections, hours of service compliance, and safe operating practices," said the OPP in a release. "This dedication helps keep Ontario's highways safe for all road users."
"While enforcement remains an important tool, we also recognize and appreciate the many drivers and carriers who consistently operate safely and professionally," said Staff Sergeant Tara Bolstad.
