Quarterback Competition Begins For Lancers

With late August and the Lancers' football season fast approaching, the starting quarterback position has yet to be firmly claimed.

That doesn't mean there isn't a front-runner. In this case, the leader of the pack is Casey Wright who, despite entering his third year, has never started a game for the Lancers.

"I kind of tell Casey, 'It's your job to lose,'" D'Amore says. "I think right now though, going into training camp, Casey has earned the right to be the starting quarterback."

Among those who are chasing Wright for the spot under centre is incoming first-year Liam Putt. D'Amore compares Putt to a top pick in the NFL draft and expects the youngster from Caledonia, Ontario, to stir up some healthy competition.

"Liam's not coming here to be a fifth-string quarterback, fourth-string quarterback," D'Amore says. "He will come in here and compete."
