Essex Teams Wrap Up GOJHL Showcase

The LaSalle Vipers dropped a close 5-4 game in double overtime to the Kitchener Dutchmen, while the Leamington Flyers clinched a 3-2 victory over the St. Catharines Falcons, during the second day of the GOJHL showcase in London.

Sunday morning, the Dutchmen led the Vipers end of the first period by one goal but LaSalle took the lead in the second, scoring twice to make it 4-3. However, the Vipers gave up the tying goal with just under ten seconds left in the final frame, forcing overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime period, but Kitchener was able to score the game winner three minutes into double overtime.

LaSalle captain Nathan Veres says it was a rough loss with their opponents tying the game so late in the third.

"We came out with a bit of a flat start but then it didn't take long after the first to get our legs back, got battling and playing our style of game," he says. "But late (in the game) we just had a little breakdown. That's the kind of stuff we got to work on and work to get better at."

The Vipers will take on the London Nationals on Wednesday at 7pm, while the Flyers will hit the ice again on Thursday at 7:10pm.
