Spitfires comeback falls short against Ottawa

The Windsor Spitfires weren't able to comeback from a slow start against the Ottawa 67s.

The teams faced-off in Ottawa with the 67s winning 5-4 after a three goal first period.

Getting the scoring started was Ottawa's Will Gerrior. His goal was followed by Bradley Horner which gave the 67s a quick two-goal lead.

Jean-Christoph Lemieux's 9th goal cut the lead in half less than a minute after Horner's goal. Getting the assists on Lemieux's goal were Carson Woodall and Shawn Costello.

Filip Ekberg regained Ottawa's two-goal lead before the end of the period.

The 67s would add two more early in the second period. The first was scored by Chase Yanni and the second by Luca Pinelli.

The Spitfires woke up late in the second period as they rattled off three straight goals.

Luke McNamara's 11th goal was assisted by Wyatt Kennedy and Jack Nesbitt.

It was followed by Liam Greentree's 43rd goal. The helpers went to Ethan Garden and Woodall.

Iyla Protas also got his 43rd goal from Ryan Abraham and Greentree.

Despite the strong couple of minutes to end the second frame, the Spitfires couldn't score in the third period.

With the loss, Windsor's record drops to 40-15-4-1, while Ottawa moves to 21-30-3-5.

The Spitfires' next game is on Thursday, March 6, at home against the Kingston Frontenacs.
