Bruce County turkey farmer Ingrid DeVisser is assuring consumers that poultry and egg products continue to be safe to eat when they are properly handled, prepared and cooked.
DeVisser is Chair of the Feather Board Command Centre - a joint operation of the four provincial poultry producer groups.
The FBCC is working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on that bird flu outbreak on a Woodstock-area turkey farm.
DeVisser says producers first priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of the birds on their farms.
She says because of the Oxford county outbreak, the province's feather farmers are being extra vigilant is following their on-farm biosecurity protocols.
So far about 10 thousand of the 34 thousand turkeys on that Oxford County farm have died from the virus.
The remainder will be euthanised and destroyed.
A CFIA spokesman says the farmer involved will be compensated for the birds being destroyed.
However, the costs of the clean-up afterwards will be the responsibility of the farmer involved.
