Windsor Police have laid 48 criminal charges against two boys after a rash of vehicle thefts this past summer.
Police responded to 11 incidents between July 26 and August 19 where suspects attempted to pry off door handles or punch the locking mechanisms on the driver's side door.
The thieves managed to steal two vehicles, one from a parking lot on Tecumseh Road East on August 13, and another the next day from a parking lot on Ottawa Street. Police later recovered both vehicles.
Once the Windsor Police Target Base Unit identified the suspects, officers arrested a 13-year-old boy at a home in the west end on August 9. The 12-year-old was found the next day at another home in the west end the next day.
Police won't be identifying the boys, but say each one faces 11 counts of mischief under $5,000, 11 counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
