Grain Farmers of Ontario Chair Mark Brock admits his organisation is at a standstill with the government over draft seed treatment regulations.
GFO had a technical briefing on the regulations this week.
The grain growers group says the lack of clarity, inability to address very real on-farm challenges to implementation of the regulations and the timelines involved create unmanageable, widespread burden to agriculture.
Brock says when you add up all the concerns across the industry it shows the regulations really aren't workable.
He doesn't see an easy fix, either - suggesting the regulations need to be scrapped and the government start all over again.
Brock says GFO will continue to do it's due diligence and will be making a submission through the EBR process regarding those draft regulations.
He argues the government doesn't appear to have listened to or addressed concerns grain growers have had with some of the concepts in the regulations over the past two years.
Because of that, Brock says he's not sure how much any of what GFO says now on the draft regulations will resonate with the government.

Brock says they still have a lot of concerns, including pest assessment methods, selection of pests identified as valid and liability and insurance implications.
