All Ontario poultry producers and industry stakeholders are being encouraged to boost their biosecurity protocols.
The Feather Board Command Centre calls it the best way to protect all Ontario flocks from Avian Influenza.
The Centre has recommended a Heightened Biosecurity Protocol for all poultry operations inside the two, ten kilometer radius control zones around the province's two confirmed locations.
Now it's encouraging producers and stakeholders outside those zones to adopt the fundamental elements of that protocol, even though their own farms are not under quarantine.
That heightened biosecurity protocol includes avoiding any co-mingling of birds or contact with outside birds.
Producers are also encouraged to avoid unnecessary contact with other poultry producers or industry stakeholders, especially at group meetings.
Securing all laneways to restrict all unnecessary traffic and ensuring adequate control of wild birds and rodents are also measures included in that protocol.
The Feather Board Command Centre says all Ontario poultry producers should continue to be diligent in observing flocks, monitoring mortalities and tracking feed and water consumption of their birds.
