No 'Back To Normal' For Ontario Poultry Biosecurity

The Avian Influenza Control Zones in Ontario will remain in place for several more weeks.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has informed the industry the original projected timelines are no longer accurate.

However, the Feather Board Command Centre reports some restrictions have been modified.

Regular business activities outside the quarantine zones have resumed.

While Ontario has only had 3 confirmed premises with avian influenza, all in Oxford County, the Command Centre says the ongoing problems with the disease in the U-S continues to concern the provincial industry.

FBCC Incident Commander Doctor Tom Baker says there is no going back to normal when it comes to biosecurity for the poultry industry.

He says growers need to further advance their already high standards and work diligently as a united industry to maintain a secure, safe supply of poultry products for Ontario consumers.
