Federal Party Ag Reps Debate Getting Young People Into Agriculture

The agricultural spokesman for the federal Conservatives, Liberals and NDP tackled a number of issues in this week's Canadian Federation of Agriculture sponsored debate in Ottawa.

One of those issues was attracting young people to the industry.

Conservative Gerry Ritz says young people need to be shown the can make money both now and in the future if they get into agricultural production.

Liberal Mark Eyking suggests governments should be funding those institutions which can show young people a pathway into agriculture.

New Democrat Malcolm Allen says this generation is largely disconnected from the farm - and we need to find ways to make that connection for them.

The CFA debate was held Wednesday in Ottawa.

The full session is being posted on the Canadian Federation of Agriculture's website.
