Canadian farmers have told Statistics Canada they expect to harvest less wheat, soybeans and canola this year and more corn, barley and oats.
The agency's September producer survey suggests national wheat production is expected to drop 11 point 4 per cent from 2014.
That's based on a 12 point 4 per cent drop in average yield and a 1 point 2 per cent increase in harvested area.
National soybean production is expected to fall 2 per cent, reflecting a 2 point 3 per cent decline in harvested area.
That's the first drop in national soybean production after 7 years of record highs.
Ontario farmers expect to see a 9 point 1 per cent drop in soybean production, based on a 4 point 4 per cent drop in acres harvested and a 4 point 8 per cent drop in average yield.
National production of corn for grain is expected to be up 6 point 2 per cent this year.
In Ontario, the harvest is expected to be up 7 point 3 per cent - based largely on a 9 point 7 per cent increase in acres harvested.
Statscan says farmers are expecting to produce almost 13 per cent less canola, about 7 per cent more barley and 10 point 5 per cent more oats this year than in 2014.
