Canadian pork production is up almost 3 per cent this year.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada puts this year's federal slaughter at 1 point 684 million head - up from last year's 1 point 637 million head.
Government figures have live hog exports to the U-S up 12 point 4 per cent so far this year while overall pork imports are up 3 point 6 per cent.
The University of Missouri's Ron Plain reports U-S pork exports were up almost 18 per cent in September.
That's the second consecutive month with U-S pork exports higher than last year.
Pork imports were down almost 3 per cent.
Plain says that's because of less pork being imported from Canada, Poland and Denmark.
However, Plain says last week was another bad one for hog prices, with the average negotiated price for barrows and gilts down 8.63 from the week before and over 14 dollars lower than two weeks ago.
Last week's U-S hog slaughter of 2 point 36 million head was up 4 point 7 per cent from the previous week, 6 per cent more than the same week last year.
