The Mayor of Central Huron suggests the various levels of government could make life a little easier for farmers if they were all on the same page.
Jim Ginn says it seems what the government gives with one hand it takes away with the other.
"A lot of our value added ideas that we have when it's implemented on farm, sometimes there's a change in zoning," says Ginn. "And the property is taxed at a higher rate because it's considered a commercial enterprise rather than a farming enterprise."
Ginn suggests that more farmers would be willing to embrace the value-added concept if they weren't immediately penalized for doing so.
