University of Missouri's Ron Plain says the latest USDA hog inventory survey found more hogs than expected.
Plain says that helped drive last week's U-S hog prices lower.
He reports Friday morning's national negotiated barrow and gilt price was just under 77 dollars a hundredweight - down over 3 dollars from the week before but up almost 5 dollars from a year ago.
Last week's U-S hog slaughter of 2 point 115 million head was up less than a per cent from the week before and almost 14 per cent higher than a year ago.
However, Plain points out the Independence Day holiday was in that week last year.
Canadian federal hog slaughter to June 25th is almost 2 per cent higher than it was a year ago.
Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports Ontario's weekly price for that week was almost 12 per cent higher than a year ago.
And government figures put live hog exports to the U-S so far this year up 6 point 4 per cent.
That includes a 7 per cent drop in barrow, gilt and sow exports and an almost 10 per cent increase in feeder pig shipments.
