Hog prices continue to slide on both sides of the border as slaughter numbers continue to soar.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reports prices are down between 14 and 28 per cent on the year across the country. Ontario has dipped by an average of 15 points.
Through the end of September, Canada has processed 1.7 per cent more hogs this year than in 2015.
Weights are also headed up as production has jumped 2.3 per cent on the year.
The University of Missouri's Ron Plain says last week's slaughter was the sixth biggest in U.S. history.
This comes on the heels of the 3rd and 5th largest.
Plain reports American hog slaughter prices to be down by an average of $2.50 last week.
The national negotiated barrow and gilt price dipped by $2.65, which is $24.60 lower than this time last year.
He also points out though that hog futures were mostly higher on the week.
