The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association is reporting the economic value of forages in Canada to be 5.1 billion dollars.
That ranks third among Canadian crops, just back of wheat and about 2.2. billion behind canola.
The CFGA points out that the 70 million acres involved in growing forages is the largest land use in all of our nation's agricultural industry .
Executive Director Cedric MacLeod says the forage and grassland industry plays a significant role in Canada's economy and is a critical foundation for sustained growth throughout our agriculture industry.
He adds opportunities for forages are continually growing.
The CFGA says they're working to push compaction abilities with the goal of increasing Canada's exports in order to meet the increasing demand for our high-quality hay.
More will be discussed at the CFGA's annual conference in Winnipeg next month.
