A Seaforth farmer is giving you another reason to cheer for Canada's boys of summer this fall.
Derek Van Dieten went to his first Blue Jays game in 1992, just months before Toronto won it's first World Series.
Now, more than two decades later, Van Dieten is putting his milk on the line as he watches Toronto's return to postseason glory.
"For every [Blue Jays] home run in the playoffs we donate 100 litres of milk to the Dairy Farmers of Ontario Food bank program," says Van Dieten.
"The DFO distributes it. The transporters actually truck the milk for free. The processors then bag it up and distribute it to all the foodbanks."
He laughs, "It's not like I'm filling up five gallon pails at the bulk tank and bringing it the foodbanks."
Van Dieten notes many other farmers donate every year, and this is just his fun way of doing it.
It's estimated dairy producers across the province donate one million litres a year.
He encourages those who aren't farmers to donate to their local food banks as well in whatever way they can.
The farming father jokes he might feel conflicted while watching if the Jays add a few dozen more home runs to their current total of 10.
But he points out if that's the case, at least Toronto will likely have another world series title.
"Plus," he adds, "it's all for a good cause."
