As long as temperatures stay consistent over the next few weeks, officials aren't concerned about the Thames River flooding this spring.
Jason Wintermute with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says we've gotten around the same amount of snow and ice as last year. He says the exception is at the mouth of the river in Lighthouse Cove, which has the potential to lead to ice jams.
He adds problems could arise if we see a sudden spike in temperatures into the double digits. "Most of the daily highs are predicted to stay in the single digits, and most nights are dipping down again beneath freezing. That helps slow down any runoff that's occurring, so the forecast is looking pretty positive."
The Thames River covers over 3,000 sq km in southwestern Ontario.
