Being drunk in public, playing loud music or defacing public property could land you a hefty fine in the near future.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service is asking municipal council to approve a new public nuisance bylaw. Specifically, police want to be more well-equipped to deal with what they call "nuisance parties."
So any time either police or a bylaw officer feels someone is committing an act that could be considered a public annoyance, and is in a public place, they can issue a fine up to $10,000.
This ranges from public urination and intoxication, to more well meaning offenses like unlawful open-burning and fireworks.
Chatham-Kent Council is set to discuss the new bylaw Monday night.
