Developing Existing Tourism Opportunities

As Chatham-Kent continues to develop its Destination Management Plan, a tourism consultant says it needs to put an emphasis on existing services and attractions.

Richard Innes of BrainTrust Marketing and Communications says CK has the potential to excel in leisure, sports, as well as meeting and conference tourism opportunities.

Innes adds coming up with new initiatives is fine, but they need to work with what's already at their disposal. "The emphasis is given to taking what you have, and developing it in ways that it becomes more attractive to specific groups of people." He cites facilities like the Bradley Centre as features that can increase the number of visitors to Chatham-Kent.

BrainTrust is still in the early process of researching and gathering information on CK tourism. Municipal officials want to have a tourism master plan and recommendations prepared by August.
