The Chatham-Kent Cougars varsity football squad lost 27-19 to the Forest City Thunderbirds on Saturday.
In a home game played at Norm Perry Memorial Park in Sarnia, the Cougars kept it close, trailing 12-10 at the half and gained a 13-12 advantage in the third quarter. However, the Thunderbirds were able to score 15 points before the final frame. CK added a final touchdown in the fourth, but couldn't make the comeback.
Quarterback Kelton Evans says despite the loss, the game showed that the Cougars can give even the best teams a run for their money.
"I think we know we can compete with anyone. I mean, (the Thunderbirds) aren't the best in the league, but they're a good solid team," he says. "I think if we can compete with them we can compete with any team, not necessarily beat them, but I think we can compete with any team in the league."
The Cougars will take on Brantford next on June 20.
