Caldwell Are Not Waiting For Inquiry

Officials with the Caldwell First Nation say they aren't waiting for the government to fund a public inquiry into missing indigenous women and girls.

They've joined other first nation Chiefs in a multi-million dollar digital fundraising campaign.

Caldwell Chief Louise Hillier doesn't expect any of the campaigning federal party leaders to support their effort. She says that's why they need to collect money to pay for the inquiry themselves.

"I think it probably sheds a brighter light on the problem. I don't think (that federal campaign) puts pressure on them because they have known all along that it's needed."

Hillier says the campaign is also about the equality of justice.
