A public meeting tonight in Chatham has been called by the Ontario Energy Board to discuss a possible rate decrease on Entegrus bills.
Entegrus Powerlines Incorporated has applied for decreases in the amount it charges to transport electricity, something President Jim Hogan says comes from a variety of factors.
"There has been some accounting changes that will lower our costs, also some lower taxes that will be happening, and then just from the four utilities working together," he says. "There will be a slight rate decrease in the Enterer portion and the other key item we are harmonizing the rates with our different service territories."
Entegrus serves electricity customers in Chatham-Kent as well as Newbury Power, Dutton Hydro and Middlesex Power. Rate decreases will range from 77-cents to $3.49 per month.
If approved the new rates would go into effect next May and would only affect the distribution cost, not the cost of buying the power from the generator.
The public meeting starts at 7 pm at the Bradley Centre in Chatham.
