Council Notes Seed Industry Award

A Chatham-Kent council has publicly recognized a local independent seed breeder for being awarded the 2015 Canadian Plant Breeding and Genetics Award for this word in the seed corn industry.

Dr. Francis Glenn says while the award isn't much known in the general public it is very gratifying.

"I was really honoured by it it's peer awarded so it is people in the business who are giving this award out," he says. "And they are not giving it out every year."

Glenn who owns Glenn Seeds says his work may not be widely known even to the agriculture industry, because he doesn't produce seeds directly for farmers, but for the breeding programs seed corn companies have in place.

His specific area is producing corn silage genetics for corn plants that are widely used in the dairy industry.
