Halloween Safety Tips

Local police are reminding parents to talk to their kids about staying safe this Halloween.

Windsor Police Sergeant Matthew D'asti says the number of trick-or-treaters could be higher, because the holiday falls on a weekend, and it also means there could be more cars on the streets.

"Walk -- obviously, running is dangerous. And when it comes to crossing the street, do so in groups," he advises. "Get a buddy, stay together, make sure the way is clear and walk across the street carefully."

D'asti says it's a good idea to include reflective tape on kids' costumes, and to make sure that if a mask is being worn, the eye holes are big enough that the child's vision isn't impaired.

He's also encouraging parents to inspect their children's candy when they return home, to make sure nothing suspicious is found inside their bags.
