As Chatham-Kent council prepares to debate dollars and figures in budget deliberations, a local group hopes the municipality doesn't forget how important people are when building the economy.
Chairman of the Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing Bill Wolsing says potential investors visit cities before forking over cash. He adds past service cuts have impacted how his event has run, and the patrons who attend them.
"There's certain things they've cut prior, like dock attendants for boaters, that could possibly help bring back tourism if brought back," he says.
Wolsing admits cuts need to be made, but is willing to pay a bit more if it means potential long-term investment.
"I think they're doing a good job. Everyone has to take a cut here and there, but there are certain things we need to utilize, and do it right."
Wolsing was one of just four members of the public to take in the Budget Open House in Wallaceburg Tuesday. Two more open houses take place Wednesday in Tilbury and Thursday in Chatham.
