Snow plowing is underway on area roads and officials are keeping a close eye on how much more snow is possible and warning people to keep conditions in mind when they drive.
The region is covered with a blanket of wet, slushy snow after the latest winter storm moved through southwestern Ontario overnight.
Essex County engineer Tom Bateman says 15 plows started clearing off the roads around 1am. He's watching the radar and anticipates a few more bands of snow will pass through this afternoon.
"We're still out just kinda cleaning things up, plowing off some of the areas that have some heavy slush," he says.
Chatham-Kent's Director of Public Works Miguel Pelletier says plows are working on main roads on a priority basis and says if weather conditions remain as they are, most should be clean later this afternoon, although secondary roads will still have snow on them.
"They keep working by priority and if the snow continues if some of the main arteries get filled again, then they go back again," Pelletier says.
Bateman suggests drivers slow down.
"If the wind picks up again conditions can change fairly quickly so we just ask people to take it easy and pay attention," he says.
Blowing snow was a bit of a challenge for plow operators but Bateman doesn't anticipate a lot of drifting on area roadways.
