Home Grown Tech Reaches Apple, Google

A new Windsor-made app is available on both Apple's app store and Google's Android store platforms.

EatDrinX is one of the latest applications to be added to the two stores and co-founders Matt Guignard and Pramod Mendonca say the new platform will allow restaurants to showcase daily offerings, giving consumers a chance to see what's good close by.

Mendonca says getting EatDrinX off the ground wasn't easy in a city not known for its tech start-ups, but the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator came to the rescue.

"It's been tough out here. We haven't had that much support, but the Windsor Accelerator has really helped us out," says Mendonca. "I hope more tech comes to Windsor because the area is quite favourable for it because Detroit is just across the river."

The co-founders are testing the new app in the Windsor-Detroit area before hoping to expand to Toronto and Chicago — and everywhere in between.

Although Windsor may not been known as a tech start-up hot bed, Guignard says the talent is here and the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator can help that talent reach its potential.

"Without them it wouldn't have been possible," says Guignard. "It's a collective environment where you have entrepreneurs sharing ideas and sharing their abilities helping to push the entrepreneurship spirit in Windsor forward."

The EatDrinX platform has been in development for about seven months with Guignard moving from work as a food commodity trader to marketing and feeling there was an opportunity to better help restaurants show new offerings. Mendonca came on board about four months ago as he worked on his Masters of Computer Science and lent his skills to the project.
