Chatham-Kent police will remap its districts and the patrol zones within them.
Chief Gary Conn says four districts will be realigned to three, north, south and central, with the boundaries formed by the Thames River and Hwy. 401.
Conn says different areas get different numbers of call for service so adjusting the patrol areas means it is more likely that each officer will answer the same number of calls.
"Some zones within our municipality where they would only receive one call for a 12-hour shift, in our previous model other zones would receive ten-12 calls for a 12-hour shift," he says. "[We wanted] to more equitably distribute those calls for service amongst our front-line officers."
It is the first major shift in the patrol map since the police service was formed in 1998.
Police are hoping to implement the change next month.
