Chatham-Kent police say two people are facing charges after a man climbed a Bell Canada tower in Chatham Monday night.
Investigators say the man was under the influence of an illegal substance when he entered the fenced compound and climbed all the way to the top of the tower, which is approximately 300 feet off the ground.
Police say a police negotiator was able to persuade the man to climb down before he was taken into custody at around 10pm.
According to police, while the man was at the top of the tower, he appeared to be trying to damage to it. It's not clear how much damage he may have caused, but officials with Bell Canada will be taking a closer look at it today.
Police say while they were dealing with that incident, a woman continuously crossed the yellow police tape, approached officers, and yelled at the man on the tower.
She was reportedly warned not to interfere, but police say as the man climbed down and officers were arresting him, the woman entered the perimeter again and walked into the fenced compound surrounding the tower.
A 52-year-old Chatham man is charged with break and enter and mischief while a 32-year-old woman is charged with obstructing police.
