Crawford Shocked By Dallas Violence

Windsor native Tyrone Crawford of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys is shocked by the violence in his adopted city.

Five law-enforcement officers were shot dead by sniper fire at a protest last night rallying against the police killings of two black men in the US. Seven other officers and two civilians were also injured.

Crawford was surprised by the violence saying he never thought a mass shooting could happen in Dallas because there are so many people with guns in the city.

"I've always said, 'I never thought anything like that would happen in Dallas' because it's sad to say, but good to say I mean everyone's carrying; like everyone has a gun on their hip," says Crawford. "If there was something to happen the person would always get taken down earlier than he can do a lot of damage, but these people obviously had it planned out and they were strategic."

The violence is difficult to make sense of.

"It's just crazy what's happening around the world Baton Rouge, Minnesota," says Crawford. "Just to know that it happened in the city that I live in and it was planned, it's sickening."

Crawford says the football team will be part of the healing process.

"The people will come together and grow, but a lot of the other things that are going on need to stop. Everybody needs to just come together and make things right in Dallas," says Crawford. "It's not going to happen unless the people want it to happen."

Crawford addressed the matter while attending the kickoff of the Windsor Stadium reconstruction project on Friday morning.
